"Rethinking Regulation around Antibiotics in Rural China" Workshop

On December 7, 2008, in cooperation with Britain's Sussex University STEPS Center, our school held a workshop on "Rethinking Regulation around Antibiotics in Rural China."

 

Some relevant leaders in the Ministry of Health of P. R. China and the State Medicine Adverse Reaction Monitoring Center attended the meeting, as well as scholars from the Representative Office of WHO, the Development Research Center of the State Council, the Institute of Health Care Economy of the Ministry of Health, the China Health Education Center, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Shandong University.

 

At the beginning, Adrian Ely introduced the research design; Professor Liang Xiaoyun reported the results of the interview with the rural citizens; and vice Professor Jin Gangfu presented the methodological results of the rural doctors, rural health institute, health department in rural local government, and the local medicine monitoring department. The participants in the workshop communicated with each other on topics including, "antibiotics regulatory system of Chinese rural areas," "the understanding and behavior of the rural citizens about antibiotics and its tolerance," and "health education of antibiotics and its target group," etc. They also gave a deep analysis of the current abuse of antibiotics in China, and the situation in Chinese rural areas. Some possible resolutions and research areas in need were also proposed.
